You Got Scammed: The Job Hiring Scam in the Philippines

Scam is just another art practiced for so many generations. It has started way back then and may have changes with so many faces. One of the most famous scam is from the movie "Catch me if you can" a true to life to story played by my favorite Hollywood Actor Leonardo diCaprio.

In the Philippines, scam has made many faces. Sad truth is it victimizes the common public, the grassroots and the fresh graduates who wishes to start up their career.

I still remember way back in college when I almost tried to ask my mom to withdraw my community savings so I could join the cellphone cards business. I got so excited because of the fact that I can earn more than 80% of every cards sold.

There were a lot of faces of scam. Today, there's another scam that is really famous. Their victim is usually those who are eager to work. Those who would like to have a better living.

How do they work?

These are those who are posting a certain job openings usually almost everywhere with their phone number. The moment you got interested, that's where the process of scam starts.

Then, the moment you called them or visited their office, the interview process starts. They presents themselves as headhunters. The difference is after the so called interview process they will start asking you for fees like Php 500 for insurance, Php 50 to Php 250 for medical fee, sometimes they are also asking their applicants for processing fee or sometimes they would ask them to sell a certain appliances as part of their job interview or "training".

How to identify that Headhunters are SCAM?
  1. The moment you step into their so called office has a few monoblock chairs and monoblock tables. The so called office doesn't even look like one.
  2. When they are requiring you to pay something else. Always remember that you shouldn't be paying anything during the interview process. There should never be a fee for MEDICAL, INSURANCE OR EVEN PROCESSING.
  3. The fees doesn't have a legitimate or official receipt.
  4. When the job interview is too fast pacing.
What would you do?

If you experience any of the 3 identifiers most especially the number 2 back off. Better not to have a job than to be scammed.  Tell everyone that it is a scam (note: tell them secretly) then leave immediately. If you want you can report it to the police or even DOLE that these people are collecting fees.
