CNN Eye on the Philippines

I would say I totally agree with the reporter when she says Its more fun in the Philippines in many ways, and yes when you say Philippines I would say everyone would think of white sand beach and beautiful beaches.

Boracay is also known for its wonderful beaches, a paradise and I would say the "Queen of all Beaches". The challenge here for Filipinos is to keep as "the Queen" and should stay as it is and shouldn't be impeached on her throne because it wasnt taken care off by her people she serves.

However, I totally agree when she (the CNN reporter) says that Philippines are just getting a fraction of the worldwide tourist because of POLITICAL INSTABILITY, CORRUPTION, AND LACK OF PROPER INFRASTRUCTION. It is something the Philippine leader could do something.

Aside from the beautiful beaches in the Philippines, a visitor can also enjoy eco-tourism up north of the Philippine Archipelago.

The most popular spot in the north is of course Baguio City.

Or one can definitlely enjoy the scenic view of the mountain ranges of Mountain Province and Benguet:

The mountain road is only develop during
President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo

Or the rice terraces scattered all through out Ifugao and Mountain Province:

Or join the Igorot tribe in their majestic cultural performances.

One can also visit the calm but mighty Abra River. Kayaking can also be develop in this place.

If you drive way up north you can also see the beautiful places of Basco Batanes.

Dampa sa MOA

Every time I hear the word "DAMPA" it excites me. I always imagine a mouth watering sea foods. I asked my friends grand mother and she told me that Dampa means seashore. Others would say Dampa is a nipa hut. So if you asked me to define DAMPA, I would say it is a HUT that is located near the sea shore specifically design for eating. hahaha thats my own definition.

So when we (me and my friend - Anton) had the chance to go out together. We tried eating at Dampa in SM Mall of Asia in Pasay. Since it is my first time I am not particular on how the transaction goes. There are a lot of Dampa Restaurants in MOA so we have to choose. We don't have an idea and don't know who offers the best.

So we choose Aling Mahrsya Dampa Paluto Restaurant. Since it is my first time I am expecting a little bit more though I dont know what to expect though.. wahahah. So we choose shrimp, rice and Adobong Kangkong on the side.

While I am munching the shrimp. I decided to eat using my hands as a spoon and fork. In short we call it KAMAYAN!!!! I loved it! Aling Mahrsya is comparable to a LUTONG BAHAY.

After eating, we decided to sip a cup of coffee at the Starbucks. I think it is a combination... I loved it.

Freeway x Celerio: National Artist Collectors’ Series Fall 2012

Filipinos really love singing. You can always see karaoke or videoke almost everywhere in the country from malls to household and from streets parties to birthday parties or from all occasions. Videoke will never be absent.

Somehow this is a national trait for Filipinos that they have in common and somehow this was rooted way back then. In 1910 a composer and lyricist was born in the name of Levi Celerio, where his work were cherished as it talks about life, conveys nationalistic sentiments and utter grand philosophies. He has written more than 4,000 Filipino folk songs, Christmas and love songs.

Last June 5, 2012 Freeway has officialy launched a collection in honor of Levi Celerio. This is Freeway's first National Artist for Music in the Series.

The Wedding Dress for your Inspiration

I would like to showcase the wedding dresses that was used by the people I know. As June signals the wedding season in the Philippines, I would like to share ideas from the people that I know for their wedding dress that you could definitely use as an inspiration.

They were stunning in their own way!

They are an inspiration for others.

Be the most beautiful lady on your wedding day. Wear those winsome smile coupled with your beautiful wedding dress.

I would say they have one thing in common, they are all beautiful in their wedding day!

Wedding day is the most laborious event I would say. It would take so much of your time from giveaways to church decorations and to reception. It takes a lot of effort and so much of brainstorming of course the bride would like everything to be perfect on her very special day.

On the day of the event of course you would want to have the best of you. The bride would like to have her natural beauty enhanced.

The hair and make up makes a very important role in enhancing the bride's natural beauty. This time around the bride can't do nothing but depend on her make up artist.

"I believe that makeup should make you a beautiful version of yourself rather than making you look like someone else," says Lindsay Co-Alog in her website which is true. Make up enhances your beauty and should not cover up your personality and become a robotic copy cat of someone else look. She further adds that make up should be true to ones personality so she would always take into consideration the different style of her clients. Further, her approach to makeup is natural but with definition.

One thing to consider for the bride to hire a makeup artist is the ability of her make up artist to work with the bride, suggesting the perfect make and the perfect tone. The ability to let you the bride flourish with your (bride) natural beauty and showing the right attitude for the right occasion.

In fact, "My passion lies in enhancing the natural beauty of my clients considering the uniqueness of each and everyone. Finding the perfect makeup look whether it be natural or dramatic for my client is my priority," Lindsay added.

Here are some of Lindsay's work: (Note: The photo's below are taken in Lindsay's Website)

It’s More Fun in The Philippines – Experiencing Anawangin Cove

Summer indeed is fun and exciting. For students, its time to sit back and relax and do away with school projects and activities but for working people it is time to have a little family and friends getaway during national holidays.

My first stop is a beautiful island in Zambales popularly known as the Anawangin Cove. It is very much making its name to beach goers and campers. It is also located at Pundaquit Zambales. My group had so much fun as we feel the beauty nature has given to the people of Zambales for everyone to enjoy. It is as if the place is between you and nature or should I say you and the beautiful sceneries of the volcanic white sand beach with sparkling crystal blue water and the feel of being swayed by the gentle mountain summer breeze.

It is a perfect place to run away from the hustles and bustles of the busy metro, a perfect place to do away with your usual activity. Above all, it is a perfect place for you to just relax.

I love the fact that the place doesn’t offer the luxury of hotel and wifi and swimming pools. I think this is their advantage towards other beach destination in the Philippines.

Here's what your back pack should include:

  • swiss knife with can opener
  • rechargeable lamp (fully charge)
  • mosquito or insect Repellent
  • blanket - light blankets just for you to cover yourself
  • lighter or matches
  • food (also include emergency food like biscuits and canned goods)
  • pajama (optional)
  • camera (to catch those perfect scenes)
  • speaker (battery operated)
  • potable water, soda, liquor
  • Swimming and hiking clothes like board shorts, sando or shirt, shades, sunvisor, extra slippers (it should be a heavy duty slippers for island hoping and mountaineering.
  • personal hygienic kit (bath soap, shampoo, toothpaste etc)
  • portable stove and cooking utensils (optional)
  • Dont forget to bring ziplok for wet clothes and camera…
  • Bring your own cigarette and liqour because it prices would triple or quadruple when you are in the island.

There are many options for you to choose from if you want to visit Anawangin.
  • Van for rent - this would depend depending on the Van owner. Rental would range from Php 9000 to Php 11000.
  • Or thru Bus (Victory Liner) going to Zambales.
Below are the fees you need to prepare:

  • TENT/GRILLING RENT-P150.00 each
  • BOAT RIDE P350.00 each
  • ENVIRONMENTAL FEE- P 100.00 (overnight stay in ANAWANGIN)

Pros:

  • No hotel: meaning you need to rent or use your own tent. For me, it is an advantage because it gives the tourist a different feel and excitement.
  • The use of Tents:
  • it is awesome. It gives a different experience and ads a thrill.
  • Clean Comfort Rooms: So far when we visited the place they have this wide range of comfort room and shower room which is convenient enough for the
  • It is also very good that the garbage bags are scattered everywhere. What I also like here is that it has labels in it so as to guide the tourist for proper garbage segregation

Activities at the Cove:

  • When you say Annawangin Cove of course what runs to my mind when we were about to go there is a fantastic view of the beach. I did love it. The water is calm and tender. It gives a soothing feeling when I started swimming. The water and the depth of the beach is children and non-swimmer friendly.
  • Mountaineering: is also fantastic as it gives the tourist more activities to choose from or to add it on their itinerary.
  • Island Hoping: so after exhausting yourself in mountaineering and enjoying the water and flushing out your worries and stress in swimming. It is about time for you to try their island hoping. I would suggest for you to inform your boatman ahead of time that you are interested in island hoping tell them the date and time so they can fetch you up on your desired time. They would also act as a tour guide. Prices varies and negotiable.
  • Before the dark night kicks in it is also advisable to go ahead and look for woods so you could use them for bonfire during the night.

Kudos for those who is managing the island for not making it commercial in the sense of having hotels or lodges near the beach. I think nowadays we need a space like the Anawangin Cove for relaxation. I would suggest though that the plastic garbage bins should have covers for a safer, cleaner and better experience. I think it would also be better if the shower rooms and comfort rooms would have a covered trash bins to have a better experience.

In general, it would still be a 2 thumbs up for Anawangin. I can't wait for my next trip to the beautiful white sand beach!
